Good idea Hazy! She can't get adopted because of the curse, but she can get smuggled away by children!
As I sit staring at the sky, trying to find my special star again, Lillie comes and curls up next to me on the window seat. "Do you think it will happen again tonight?" She asks softly. "I hope so." I reply. "Me too. I want to see it again before..." She trails off, looking sad again. "Don't worry Lillie. Everything will be ok. I won't lose you, I promise. We will be together forever, no matter what." Just then, in response to my promise, the star begins to glow bright again. "Look!" Lillie says. "I know! It means that my promise is true. Together forever, don't forget!" I vow, giving Lillie a big hug. "Second star to the right, and straight on til morning!" We whisper together, looking at the star- our star. Okay, I deleted my last scene. Starting over!
I sat alone in my room that night, staring up at the stars. Adopted again. I wasn't lying to Miss Mollie. I've been through this before. People see me, the little blue-eyed blonde, and they think I'll be the perfect child, a little doll they can dress and play with and be part of their perfect, normal little family. Until they find out I'm as far from normal as one can get. I do try. I don't expect anyone to believe it, but at the beginning I did try my hardest. I hid my tears, my hurt and my fear of abandonment. It never worked. Like my old matron said, no one wants to have a broken doll. After the fourth or fifth time, I stopped. Just stopped trying. Nobody was going to accept me? Then I won't accept them either. To this day, I haven't trusted another person. I shouldn't have said those things to Miss Mollie and Lillie. The betrayals in my life aren't their fault. It's just that Lillie reminded me so much of my ex-best friend. Rachel. Tiny and blonde and Tinker Bell look alike. She promised we'd be friends forever... until the day I came back to school after my parents left. When I burst into tears when I learned we were reading my dad's favorite book in English class. Rachel had been the first to call me a freak then. "Even your parents didn't want you. So who would?" Then she left with the rest of the blonde, cheerleader girls. The girls I'd thought were my friends. Apparently they didn't deal well with freakishness. The nice family should have picked Astrid. Especially since Lillie probably hates me now. I sighed. Part of me wanted to run away, but I still remember my mom's letter. She told me to come here. I still don't understand it, but I won't give up just yet. Like I said, I'd be back here in a fortnight. Then I'd have plenty of time to find out why she told me to come here. Without thinking about what I was doing, I found myself in the hall outside of Astrid and Lillie's room. Without bothering to knock, I let myself in. "You go instead of me." I said bluntly, without even a greeting. Just cut to the chase. "What?" the girls blink at me, confused, from where they'd been curled up on the window seat. "They want a girl like you. Someone who can be normal. And you don't want to leave your friend, so..." I shrugged. "Tell Miss Mollie you want to go instead of me. I won't mind." "I can't," Astrid said sadly. "Nobody adopts me. Not in the thirteen years I've been here have anyone even thought about it." "Well then, you have the opposite of my problem." I rolled my eyes. "I meant what I said before, Lil. I wouldn't last a fortnight in a real family." "There's no use - "Astrid began. "Then what if we sneak you in?" I interrupted."What if we hide you in the new home, then have you take my place? You could follow us there. We'd sneak you in." Now they're both staring at me like I'm crazy. "You barge into our room without warning to... give us this crazy plan?" Lillie asked skeptically."Why are you suddenly interested in helping us anyway? I thought you were all about the 'hard lessons of life'." I looked away."You're not Rachel. She never would have done this for me,"I said quietly, hoping they didn't hear. Then, louder."I'm helping you because I know what it's like to be abandoned." (Once again, sorry if I made your characters do anything you don't like. Tell me if you want to change it. And yes, I know I interrupt your private moments a lot, and I'm very sorry, but you're the only other characters I know, and yes, Ivory secretly really wants to be your friend. Not that she would ever admit it.) |

(No problem Night Wish )
Suddenly, Ivory lets herself into the room. "You go instead of me." She says bluntly, without even a greeting. Just cut to the chase. "What?" I say, trying to work out what she is talking about. "They want a girl like you. Someone who can be normal. And you don't want to leave your friend, so..." she shrugged. "Tell Miss Molly you want to go instead of me. I won't mind." "I can't," I say sadly. "Nobody adopts me. Not in the thirteen years I've been here has anyone even thought about it." "Well then, you have the opposite of my problem." she rolls her eyes. "I meant what I said before, Lil. I wouldn't last a fortnight in a real family." "There's no use - " I begin to protest. "Then what if we sneak you in?" she interrupts. "What if we hide you in the new home, then have you take my place? You could follow us there. We'd sneak you in." "You barge into our room without warning to... give us this crazy plan?" Lillie asks skeptically. "Why are you suddenly interested in helping us anyway? I thought you were all about the 'hard lessons of life'." Ivory looks away."You're not Rachel. She never would have done this for me," she says quietly to herself. Then, louder. "I'm helping you because I know what it's like to be abandoned." "Who's Rachel?" Lillie asks gently. "No one. Forget it." Ivory says bitterly. "Look, Ivory I really appreciate what you are trying to do, but it won't work. Every time someone thinks about adopting me, they forget. It happened today. Miss Molly was going to say she should just adopt me, but she forgot what she was talking about mid sentence. It happens every time." I say, looking away sadly. "Thats why we smuggle you in! She won't have to think about adopting you, you will just be there!" Ivory says excitedly. "Well, even if this does work, I don't want to take your place. You should stay with us." I say firmly. "We have to stick together now. Friends don't leave friends. Not true ones at least." "Together forever." Lillie declares, before pulling us all into a big hug. Ivory goes stiff at first, but then relaxes and hugs us back. "Ok." She says, "Lets do this." "Stay in here tonight! There's room for one more friend." I say with a warm smile. Marina Just as I am riding my bike away from the bakery, a girl with red hair similar to mine rushes out. She must be the woman’s daughter, the one going on the trip to London. “Thank you!!” She calls. I turn my head and smile at her. I’m happy I was able to help her out. By the way they were talking, the trip sounded important to her. -- “Where will I stay in London?” I ask my aunt while helping with the dishes after dinner. “Oh, yes. I meant to tell you earlier!” Aunt Cora says, wiping a pot with a rag. “I called my friend Gina Powell while you were gone, she lives in London. She agreed to let you stay at her home.” “Oh ok, great.” I say, still feeling skeptical about this trip. “She is going to pick you up at the airport tomorrow when you arrive.” I almost drop the plate I am holding. “Tomorrow?!?!” “Yes, I’ve already purchased your plane tickets. Oh, and I even found a school in walking distance of Gina’s home!” “No!” I exclaim. “I can’t leave tomorrow, that’s too soon!” “I know Marina, but I already bought the tickets.” She begins. “You leave for the airport at six o’clock tomorrow morning.” “This isn’t fair!” I shout, tears filling my eyes. I rush out of the room and past my cousins who were standing in the doorway staring at us, completely bewildered. I rush into my bedroom and fling myself on my bed, sobbing. Why do I have to leave so soon? I don’t even get one more day to enjoy California and spend time with my aunt and cousins before I leave. This makes everything worse! Two cries of protest followed by weeping come from downstairs, causing me to cry even harder. Aunt Cora must have told Will and Polly I am leaving. I pull my pillow over my head, blocking out the heartbreaking cries from my cousins. I am going to miss them terribly. Rolling over and facing my window, I gaze at the picturesque sunset over the ocean. I’ve seen this almost every day of my life, but it never gets old. I stare out the window until the sun is just a tiny glowing line over the ocean. Well, I should start packing now. I think sadly. Feeling lightheaded from crying, I drag myself off my bed, close the curtains, and turn my lamp on. “Marina..?” A gentle voice says behind me. Aunt Cora is in the doorway with a worried look on her face. I rush over to her and hug her tightly. “I’m sorry for yelling at you like that.” I say, trying not to cry again. “I forgive you. I should have checked with you before being the tickets...I was just trying to help.” “I know, and I appreciate it." I say, putting on a smile. "Would you help me pack?” She nods. “Of course, dear.” Last edited by Misty_12; 11-04-2013 at 05:03 AM. |

The bell finally rang and we all filed out. Jem teased Elisabeth some more and ended up walking to the cafeteria with his arm around her shoulders. I find an empty table and sit down at it, pulling out my sushi. Finally. Some peace. I think to myself, too soon though as I notice Elisabeth walking towards me. Great. Here we go again. "Hey Shang. Sorry about Jem. May I join you?" She says as she reaches my table. "I guess." I reply, even-toned. "Thanks." She plops down on the seat across from me. "Hey there yellow face!" I hear, and look up to find Jem sitting next to Elisabeth, grinning. "I bought some pizza" Elisabeth smirks, "You're a total mind reader!" "I know right?!" He says while taking a sip of his coke. Way to inflate his ego. I think dryly, but keep silent as I eat. "At least you're not eating cats or dogs!" He says and Elisabeth starts laughing covering her mouth. "You are sooo mean!" she complains with an amused tone. "Japanese have not eaten dog meat for centuries, and we have never eaten cats." I retort calmly. "Don't be naïve." ~ Elisabeth~ The last class finally ends and we all rush outside. Me and Jem put our hoods on then spot Shang going the same way as us. We quickly catch up to him. ''Wait.. You live over there too?!'' I ask grinning '' Uh.. yeah..'' he says. '' That means we are all neighbours!'' I say excited. '' Just my lu-'' he murmurs but then stops. '' Did you wanted to say something?'' I ask looking at Shang. '' Ah no, its nothing..'' '' Pffft. I bet he said something in his alien language.'' Jem says placing his arm over my shoulders. '' You have 3 seconds to pull your arm away before I rip it off and shove it up your throat.'' I say in a calm tone. His eyes become wider as I begin to count. '' One.... Two..'' I begin and he quickly pulls his arm away. '' Sheesh, your so scary!'' he says in a fake terrified tone. I grin and we both laugh. '' I know. But you still love me, dear dear Jem.'' I say. '' You copy cat! '' he complains and I laugh. '' Deal with it hun.'' I say as we reach our houses. We all get inside and I quickly run upstairs towards my window. I open it and wait for Jem. Soon enough he opens it too. '' HEEEEEEEY!'' we both shout very loud then laugh. Last edited by victoriavic1; 11-04-2013 at 05:59 PM. |

Marcia stifled a giggle. "You..." "I?" "You said-" "I said...?" "You said... Snnrk!... Freaky... Sprinkles... Hahahahhahahah!" "Omigosh, seriously?" "Omigosh. Seriously." "I have to check some guys' caller ID. Hold on." I checked Caller I.D. All it said was... "'GO TO LONDON' was the Caller I.D! That gives no hint whatsoever! Wait. Someone ELSE is calling." "Oi." "...Jyello!" I answered. "Dextrous ran away." I hung up. And screamed. Goodness Golf Tees! How was I supposed to know where he went, now? "I-I-Imogen..." Marcia started, her tall slender body shrinking. "What?" She pointed behind me. "RUNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!" And so we did. Until we both stopped at the cul-de-sac. "NOOOOOO-Ouuuuch..." I woke up. I was covered in Styrofoam peanuts. But I didn't know that yet. "Soooo... hungry." Nom. Ew. I was glad I always had my pocket knife and flashlight. I don't know why I was always mad at Mom for making me stuff them in my big hair, I was always mad at her for giving me such a big fringe bob. Even though it was barely shoulder length, it was FRIZZ. I flipped the switch on, and saw something. Or, someone. "AHHH!!" dead body that was breathing? Creepy... Or, wait... |

So, I think it's pretty clear we're all meeting in London? I was thinking, maybe Dove's grandmother could enroll all of the newly adopted girls in the school Elisabeth, Jem, Shang, and the rest are at? And we could meet up there.
What does everyone think? And Liri, I love your last post. Just want to add, I haven't watched American Girl Samantha, so I'm not sure how the sneaking out will work (could you guys work out the details? ). Oh yeah, I'll post more tonight. |

Ending synopsis of the Samantha movie (or, at least, the part with Nellie and her sisters):
Samantha sneaks away her best friend Nellie and her two younger sisters, Bridget and Jenny, from the orphanage "Cold Rock House". In order to let her friend continue to stay in the attic, Samantha keeps it a secret from her aunt and uncle, and sneaks them food. However, Nellie feels like she needs to "earn her keep", so she becomes a child laborer in a local textile factory. However, Jenny becomes incredibly sick. Finding that she can't hold this information back from her aunt and uncle any longer (for Jenny's safety), Samantha tells her guardians, and they hire a doctor that helps Jenny to become better. But, instead of sending the three girls back to the orphanage (where Nellie and her sisters were going to be split up), Uncle Gard and Aunt Cornelia decide to adopt them all, and everyone has a wonderful Christmas. Sorry if that was more information than you wanted, I just started typing and couldn't stop. |
