Everyone has done a great job on their little pony drawings, so i decided to try. They're all so cute!
Here is mine attempt. I named her LuLu. I know it's a bit bad, especially the eyes. I don't have much experience with digital art. This is one of my first. Thank you Onionleaf for this really helpful tutorial. I have learned a lot. Oh, i also realized Fluttershy has the same hair and body color. I didn't realized till after i was done. I do not think I will ever be able to make a pony as good as you onion It seems very difficult.

Thanks for trying out the tutorial, Fadings! I wish I could see your art, but your image is not showing up for some reason. :/
Breezyblue, thanks for the compliment! You sure you don't wish to try the tutorial? Well, I am always here if anyone is stuck on a step.

Aw, what a totally sweet pony, fadings! That is a very good first attempt, well done! And the eyes look like eyes to me, which is a very good start.

Welcome to the Forums, mango.fairy!
To erase the color around the edges, you have to select the layer that you would like to work on (either the 'body color' or the 'hair color' layer), select the Eraser tool from the toolbox, zoom in and erase away along the lines. If I did not explain it well enough, please let me know!

Mango fairy, that is such a cute drawing! Did you use the pony that I made for Olivia as a reference? It's pretty good for a first try, and I love how you did the hair.
Thanks for sharing! If you have any other questions about the tutorial, I will be happy to answer them.

Wow, this tutorial was very helpful! Explicit instructions and pictures. Great work! (:
I wanted to download Gimp, I heard it's similar enough to Photoshop, so I decided to try it out (I'm too cheap to actually get Photoshop). But once I downloaded it, I couldn't figure out how to actually open the program! It didn't show up in the All Programs thing when I clicked the Start button (I use a PC by the way). I did find a folder for it, but I could only find templates and a whole bunch of other weird things, but I couldn't figure out how to actually try out Gimp! So I just ending up uninstalling it, but maybe I'll try to download it again if you could explain how it works... Thanks! ~Ruby. ____________________ rah-rah rabbits! |

Thank you Ruby, I am glad to hear that the instructions are clear and inderstandable.
If you haven't created a Desktop Shortcut icon for GIMP, you can go to the GIMP folder (most likely located in the Program Files folder in My Computer), and go to bin > gimp-2.6 to open the application. You may right-click the icon and choose Create Shortcut to make it easier to locate next time you would like to open the program. Mango, about the shadow, if you still have your pony saved in layers (without the white background in the way), you can create a new layer below the whole pony for the shadow. Select that new layer, then select the Ellipse tool from the toolbox. (second on the list) It is a selection tool, so click and drag the mouse underneath your pony to create an oval shape, then let go and press Enter. Now select the Bucket Fill tool, choose a black or dark grey color and click inside the oval shape. Now you can lower the Opacity of the layer (the control can be found above the layers box) - change it to around 50. If your white background is stuck to your pony, then it will take a little bit longer to create a shadow. I'll send you a PM if that is the case for you.
