That's how I edit my fairies also I cut out the hair first, rotate, mush, smudge and smooth out the edges, and the same process for the body and clothing It's a lot of work and time consuming but I usually like the outcomes!

Yep, that's my method also! It's usually pretty easy, but to make the fairy truly look 3D takes a lot more work. Sometimes I draw parts of the clothing or hair if it's too complicated to cut and paste, but I try to avoid that.

I have a question...who made the idea of creating #D fairies? Just wondering...

Is there a generic base body to work with? I used to make cartoon dollmakers years ago, but I am not good at 3D bases.

Most fairies use the famous fairies as bases. If you search 'pixie hollow character ____' (with ____ being a famous fairy's name), one of the image results should be from Disney. An example is this one:
The background, if saved as a .png file, is transparent. I hope this helps.

So, I got inspired by this thread yesterday (and was so happy to see the tutorials and helpful advice) and decided to try my hand at a 3D fairy.
I've done a little graphics editing with GIMP, but only VERY minor things, so it was fun learning some of the other things I can do. Attached is my pixie page that I started with and the end result (I used Silvermist as a base). It was fun to do! Edit: I made her glow too (third attachment)

Great job, Raven! It doesn't look like you're inexperienced with GIMP at all.

Your fairy looks lovely Raven! Great cropping and aligning of the outfit.
I think many of us have caught the "3D fairy" bug, it is very contagious!
