Club Penguin Island
Fly with you pixie pals! So, as some of you might already know, the Club Penguin online world will be closing on March 29th, 2017 and will be replaced by the mobile app Club Penguin Island.
I have no idea what this new game will be like, but according to Jesse Schell if Club Penguin Island is successful it could pave the way for a mobile version of Toontown and maybe even Pixie Hollow! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Person 1:'thoughts on club penguin closing down and reopening for an upgraded version? What about Toontown?' Jesse: 'Let's hope it works! if it is successful, it will pave the way for mobile Toontown.' Me: 'Jesse, could this also pave a way for Pixie Hollow Online to come back in mobile form?' Jesse: 'Yes, if it succeeds!' ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I don't know about you guys, but that's pretty exciting to me! Thoughts? Last edited by Neverbelle; 02-04-2017 at 08:15 PM. I don't really care aboud CPI, but if playing it means Pixie Hollow will come back, I will play it for as long as it takes.

For those curious about what Club Penguin Island is and it's reception (it's been in a "closed beta" phase for a month-ish, with certain chosen players from Australia, New Zealand, and Canada were allowed to play before the official release), here's some videos:
For me, I'm not that big of a Club Penguin player, but I'll still try out CPI for fun. Might as well, right? Hopefully CPI has a payment system that is able to work better than past payment systems used, so that CPI can prove it can make a profit... I think that if that condition is met, attention can start turning towards bringing (back) other MMOs to mobile.

Hi Marigold!
Jesse Schell is a game designer and programmer who worked at Disney for a long time. After working with them on designing Disney's Toontown, he formed his own game company, but continued to work with Disney and help develop some of their other games, including Pixie Hollow. (Here's his bio from his company's website, Schell Games.) He's also a super friendly guy and likes to interact with fans. Other than having answered Neverbelle's PH-related questions on Twitter multiple times, he's also done Toontown Q & A's for Toontown Rewritten. So, to answer your question: he does not work for Disney, but he worked with Disney to help develop Pixie Hollow and continues to work with Disney to this day (in his Toontown Q&As, he's mentioned how he's kept in contact with Disney and continued to bounce around the idea of bringing back Toontown.) I think it's important to mention that he has never made any guarantees as to whether Toontown or Pixie Hollow is going to come back--you can even see in his most recent tweets with Neverbelle that he qualifies his statements with "if it succeeds." He doesn't make any promises, so I think that if you want to mention him in your blog, it would be kinda important to mention how, even though he talks with Disney, there are no confirmations of anything--just hope. I hope that makes sense!

That makes total sense - Thanks so much for clarifying, Popcorn!
I can't believe I hadn't heard of Jesse before...It's exciting that he's so friendly and willing to answer questions from PH fans |

To be honest, I wouldn't have even discovered Pixie Hollow if it was on mobile. With a screen, storage capacity, and processor so small, I think it would be more limiting for a virtual world. I am not saying it's not possible, though!
A virtual world once known as Tinierme has been successfully converted into a mobile app (CocoPPA play). It is no longer a virtual world, but it is an addicting questing game in which you collect items to trade in for gorgeous clothing and background items to customize your avatar. But still, even though there is a limit to a virtual world it would still be great if there is a well developed Pixie Hollow mobile app, with fun quests. |

I agree. Heck, I'd be happy to just be able to play the mini-games again with my fairy. Bubble Bounce, Snowy Lullaby, Baking with Dulcie.... I'm dreaming again. |

I'm glad my explanation made sense!
I had always loved the idea of being able to play the talent games again--even if it wasn't using my fairy, like with Harvest Hustle. There used to be mornings where I'd just wake up and think, "gosh, I wish I could play Pinecone Pop right now." If there was ever a time where we could access those talent games again...

I do hope that whatever Disney Interactive releases now and in years to come will bring positive results, as it seems this department is rather.. underdeveloped, especially after closing so many online games. I agree Daisybelle, when you think about it, it's quite constraining to develop an online world meant for mobile phones, isn't it? But I suppose if market research concludes that only mobile games are earning the required profits then what else can be done?
Here's hoping that the Disney tech team will always be thinking outside the box and utilising their resources & creative juices to the fullest to bring us magical gaming fun in the future. (Like Talent Games for mobiles, now that would be lovely to see!)

Hello fairies! So I've downloaded Club Penguin Island (CPI), and put together a review of the game! It gets a little on the long side, so I've put it in a spoiler tab below.
Spoiler for Club Penguin Island - A Pixie's Review:
I also found this cool article that talks about why Club Penguin needed to be converted to mobile, based upon information given from Disney's VP of "Kids and Casual Games". I haven't ready it through fully, but it looks interesting. Here's the link if you want to give it a read-through!

Thanks for the review Eve, it was well written. The article was interesting to read as well as it outlined the reasoning behind revamping Club Penguin. It looks like their target audience is the younger generation of mobile gamers whose parents are willing to pay the $4.99 a month for the experience. Those who don't fall under that definition will just have to find a different MMO to play.

Oh, man. I'm not a fan of Club Penguin (it's not truly Disney, imho), but if it does succeed, Pixie Hollow might come back, and that would be awesome! Even if it's just the mini games, it's still something!
