Java Update for PHF Live Chat Not Working
Hi! Recently I tried to access the Live Chat we have here on the Forum, and up popped a notification that my form of Java was out of date (it wouldn't let me access Live Chat without a current version of Java). So, I updated it to the latest version (v. 7 update 67), and made sure that no out-of-date forms of Java are on my computer. I tried to access Live Chat again, only for it to tell me I was using a form of Java "signed with an expired or not-yet-valid certificate" and that my security settings had blocked it. Help?

Me too, Popcorn and Daisybelle! I wonder what's wrong because I've never been able to access it and I really want to in time for our September 19 celebration.

I have never had much luck with Java, so I asked and it seems you will need to lower your firewall settings to medium. This should allow you to access chat.

How exactly do you do that?

In your settings for your browser you will go to Security, there you will be able to change it. It is best to ask for help from a adult if you are unsure of where to find this.
On Google Chrome you can click the 3 lines on the top right of the window (under the red box with X in it) from there you will select: Settings>Advanced>Privacy>Content Settings> Plugins >Run automatically It may also help if you added the site name to your exceptions. I found mine and noticed it is set to medium high....this might explain why it never worked for me.

Well, I tried doing what you advised, and it still isn't working for me--the IRC application is still blocking Java (still thinks it's out of date, or not yet valid). I even went into my Firewall settings and manually "allowed" Java, and still nothing. Anything else I can try?

I was experiencing the same issues, Eve! I realized that the problem was with Java blocking the Pixie Hollow Forums, not the IRC Application blocking Java. Live Chat started working when I did this, so it's worth a try.
1. Find the Java Control Panel. (Start > All programs > Java > Configure Java) 2. Click the Security tab. 3. Add http://www.pixiehollowforums.com to the Exception Site List. (Edit Site List... > Add > OK) 4. Click OK > Apply. I really hope this helps! Good luck. ~Ruby.

Thanks everyone that has been attempting to help one another get on our chat channels. I hope we get to see more of you hang around. Keep in mind, that many of our staff are busy doing different things and may not respond right away. So hang on and I'm sure someone will respond to you in a couple of minutes.
