Ruby and the Search for the Lost Cub
This is a story that I wrote for the lovely, Bookthing
Ruby and the Search for the Lost Cub It was a brisk summer afternoon with a gentle breeze whispering through the woods. Ruby, an animal talent of extraordinary talents, was perched on a sturdy branch high up in an oak tree. She had been given the task of looking after a tiny little bear cub while it's mother was getting treated for a wound. The only problem? Ruby couldn't find the cub anywhere. One moment it was sniffing a large bush of blackberries and the next it was gone. Ruby flew as fast as her wings could carry her after the cub but it was too late. The sun was now high in the sky and even though she had spent several hours looking for the troublesome bear, she couldn't find a trace of him anywhere! With a sigh, Ruby fluttered to the ground. It was about time she started asking others for hep. Her first stop was a spacy glade in the middle of the forest. Before she even reached it, she could hear frequent giggles and the sound of bunnies hopping about. Ruby pushed back a long curtain of moss and poked her head through. "Hey, Autumn! Have you seen a bear cub passing by?" She called in a high, clear voice. Autumn jumped up, her eyes wide with fear, "Oh, by the north star! You scared me Ruby," she said with a smile. Autumn turned a full circle, her eyes searching the trees beyond the glade. "Sadly, I haven't seen any bears today. And it's such a joy to see those fuzzy furballs! I heard a commotion down by the babbling brook. Maybe it was the bear?" Autumn's eyes glazed over and she frowned at the ground, obviously deep in thought. "Well, thanks anyways!" Ruby murmured as she waved a goodbye to Autumn. When Ruby reached the babbling brook there was several disgruntled water talents arguing with each other. Ruby went up to the nearest water talent and asked, "What's going on? Is everything alright?" "We were all minding our own business, just putting some dewdrops on some webs, when some of the water talents had to leave. While they were gone some bear came tumbling through and knocked all of the dewdrops off of the webs! So of course when the water talents came back they blamed us. And when we told them about the bear, they didn't believe us!" the water talent ranted as she started putting some dewdrops on a web. Ruby gasped quietly, the littlest of sounds, and looked at the water talent guiltily while she said, "I'm so very sorry, but can you tell me where the bear was heading?" The water talent frowned and pointed west. "Oh no, that's towards the center of pixie hollow!" Ruby whispered to herself. And in a flick of a wing Ruby was flying as fast as Vidia towards Havendish Square. "Ruby!" a calm voice called out. Ruby stopped flying and turned towards a blonde fairy named Olivia Diamondsky. "I heard some noises when I passed by your home, you should probably check it out," Olivia explained. "Thank you so very much, Olivia! I'll check it out right away. Fly with you later!" Ruby said breathlessly. When Ruby finally reached her home she could not stop giggling. There inside was the little bear cub with his muzzle covered in honey and his paw scooping for some more. Ruby flew over to the bear and wrapped her arms around his neck. "What am I going to do with you?" she whispered into his fur.

Review of Ruby and the Search for the Lost Cub
When I read about the giggling sounds, at first I thought it was pranking butterflies, like in the Disney Fairies chapter books.
I liked the happy ending, especially the kind moment with the fur. I could really sense the emotion in that moment. I liked the characters, partly because my fairies have met them! Stormy

Lovely story, Autumn!
I enjoyed when Ruby went past the water talents. How funny! If Isabelle was there she would have went crazy, seeing a bear and all. Wonderful story my friend! |

This was an amazing story Autumn, you are one of the most flitterific, flaptastic fairy storytellers I've known, and that's really nice of you to dedicate it to Book Thing!
