Firewall Blocking the Internet?

I have a program on my computer, no idea how it got there, called Firewall. It says "Firewall blocked a program from acessing the Internet" randomly, and then closes my Internet tabs. Its done it three times already as I'm writing.
It just said "virus detected".
Does anyone know why its doing this and how I prevent it?

I don't know, Cat. It means that a virus has infected your computer probably.
Try blocking all the Pop-Ups or something like that. Or try scanning your computer.
If any other programs get access to your computer, you may lose all the data and that's why the Firewall is blocking your programs.

Firewall is a protective.. utility software? I am not sure, but it prevents viruses from entering the computer.

I am sure that many forum fairies will be able to help you out more thouroughly!
Happy Flapping!

Thank you, Jillian.

However, I hope someone helps me soon, because it is starting to really annoy me. I'll have to get my brother to clean my computer next time he comes over, which sadly, is in two weeks. I hope I can get it settled before then!

P.S. It close 3 times while I was typing that.

Cat the Firewall are safely devices configured for protect the net, the idea is that this block the access to some "things" for security.

I suggest you that do not change anything of that settings and that ask to your parents about this, maybe they configured this ;)

Well, it has also told me to get "Ultimate Protection" but that costs money. Also, I just realized it's not Firewall, but Windows Security telling me Firewall has blocked it. I don't understand.
Thank you, Cupcake. I'll check it out.

P.S. It closed 4 times during that.

Oh no Cat.... there is a virus called Windows Security (I had this or something VERY similar) and it seems it has already infected your computer. It is designed to look official at first glance. Part of this virus is to stop access to the internet to prevent you from downloading any antivirus software. Stop everything and run a (or several) virus scans immediately. Do not back up anything as you could backup the virus.

Run Norton, Avast or whatever you have installed then any malware protection you have. I use Avast as a general antivirus but also use Malwarebytes Anti-Malware since some viruses can slip by one protection. In fact, when I think something has accessed my computer I run 4 different programs to ensure it has gone.

Please do it now. The longer you leave it the more entrenched it will become on your computer.

Oh, don't trust that program, whatever you do!!!
That "Windows Security" program is a virus itself--whatever viruses it says you have, you actually don't. My computer used to have that terrible virus/program, as well.
It takes a while and persistence to get it off your computer system, so I would do what Jezzi has suggested and get it off as soon as you can. I wish you the best of luck, but its not impossible to solve!!

Well, I ran a anti-virus I found, but I can't find what security I have. I have no idea what my security is(or where it is located). I'll ask my brother to look at it, but, that's in two weeks! I don't know much about computers, only certain computer programs and I have no idea what to do or how to.

I'm not sure if this suggestion is going to work, however I guess I'll state it anyway.

First things first, please make sure your Firewall is on. Then, try to uninstall that Windows Security program (the sooner you uninstall it, the sooner the problem's going to be fixed)! And, go to your Control Panel and go to your Firewall settings (located in Security Center, and click on "Windows Firewall". After, click on "Change settings"). You should be able to see a tab that says "Exceptions". Go to that tab and try to find "Windows Security". If there's a box with a checkmark beside it, uncheck that box and click on Apply. After the settings are configured, delete that program from the list!

Although that should be able to stop it for now. Then, quickly go to the Internet and browse for other anti-virus programs to replace Windows Security (and make sure they're safe, too!).

P.S. I believe your default "security program" (other than Windows Security) is Windows Defender? I have that in my computer. And, go to your Control Panel and go to the Security Center. I think you'll be able to find what security and other protection programs are installed into your computer.

Or, go to your Programs ( category found in your Control Panel) and you may take a looksie to find the installed anti-virus programs.

Sorry if my previous post was alarming but if this virus is the one I think it is then it is really horrible to get rid off unless done immediately. Quite honestly do not use this computer again for anything until you/brother/adult can spend time to fix it. The longer you leave it the more it worms its way around your system so keep your computer switched off.

I wouldn't delete anything at the moment since this virus mimics the real thing very closely so unless you know exactly what you are doing you could delete what you really need to keep the system going.

As for your "real" Security Center > go to Start > Control Panel > Security Centre > Make sure your Firewall, Automatic Updates and Virus Protection are all switched ON. This is the minimum you need. I also have Avast antivirus (this is free) since Norton kept bogging down my computer.

Can I ask which antivirus you used? Some are better than others but while googling I did come across an article that suggests that anti-malware is better at getting rid of this virus rather than an antivirus program. If your computer keeps shutting down you might need to download this program onto a memory stick on another computer and transfer it over when yours is in safe mode. The one piece of advice that has stuck in my mind is once you have run your antivirus/anti-malware/whatever and got your computer clean is to reboot your computer and run it all AGAIN to ensure it really did catch everything.

Article about Windows Security
This is my preferred website for downloading the anti-malware program, but if you have a different preferred/trusted website then go for that.

Good luck :PHClover:

I'll show this thread to my brother (He was going to give my computer a clean-up anyway) when he comes, seeing how I'm a little confused. :Embarrassed: Thanks for the help everyone!

Oh my, I hope you can get rid of your virus quickly Cat!
I use Symantec Endpoint Protection for my laptop and haven't had any viruses for a long time, I prefer SEP since I disliked Norton as well.

Hopefully your comp will feel much better soon :Flowers:

vetcat1234 07-12-2012 01:34 PM

Thanks guys.

I'll be off of my computer for a couple weeks till my brother can fix it. I might get on sometimes from my mom's computer, but I most likely won't log in. :Teasing:

Where you go to start your computer, there are small symbols lined up near the time.
Do you have one the is a shield?
Double click on that.
Then under virus and protection there should be a scan you computer.
Do that.
That will help until your brother comes. It will scan you computer for viruses. If you don't have that symbol, you may not have virus protection.
Good luck. :)

vetcat1234 07-16-2012 07:09 PM

Thanks, Mia. I'll do that later today.
